🔬 Intelligent Synthesis of Low-Dimensional Materials
Professor Jiangtao Wang received his Ph.D. in Physics from Tsinghua University in 2018, followed by nearly 7 years of postdoctoral and research scientist work in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT. He joined the College of Engineering at Peking University as Assistant Professor in April 2025. His main research direction is intelligent precision synthesis of low-dimensional materials. He has published numerous papers in top journals including Nature and Nature Catalysis, and has received national talent program (young investigator) honors. He is committed to combining artificial intelligence technology to drive digital transformation in materials science research.

Growing highly pure semiconducting carbon nanotubes by electrotwisting the helicity 🔽

This study reports the first direct growth of highly pure semiconducting carbon nanotubes through electric field-controlled chemical vapor deposition. We discovered that external electric fields can effectively control the chirality of catalyst particles, thereby achieving precise control over carbon nanotube chirality. Semiconducting carbon nanotubes prepared by this method can achieve purities exceeding 95%, laying an important foundation for future nanoelectronic device applications.

We developed a cascaded compression method that can significantly reduce the size distribution of nanopores in monolayer graphene. Through multi-step precise control, we successfully reduced the standard deviation of nanopore sizes from 50% in traditional methods to less than 10%. This breakthrough provides new technical pathways for high-precision molecular sieving and ion-selective permeation.

We proposed the novel concept of remote-contact catalysis to achieve controllable preparation of target-diameter semiconducting carbon nanotube arrays. This method precisely controls the distance between catalyst and substrate to regulate carbon source supply rate, thereby achieving precise control over carbon nanotube diameter. The prepared nanotube arrays exhibit excellent electrical performance in transistor devices.
